Smanla Tsering
Smanla Tsering lives in Ladakh and for more than twenty years has been involved in wildlife conservation in this remote region. He was a pioneer in promoting ecotourism in Hemis National Park and was one of the first Snow Leopard guides in Ladakh.
Smanla currently divides his time between working for the Wildlife Department and guiding visitors who are keen to see Snow Leopards and the other amazing wildlife which can be found in Ladakh.
When working for the Wildlife Department, one of Smanla’s roles is to rescue Snow Leopards and release them back into their natural habitat, with one of his “proudest and happiest experiences” being when he was able to reunite three Snow Leopard cubs with their mother.
Smanla is also involved in training the next generation of Snow Leopard guides and to date has assisted more than twenty unemployed youngsters in becoming wildlife guides.
