Jonas Livet
The animal world has fascinated Jonas for as long as he can remember. Over the years, that fascination has developed into a deeper understanding of the complex threats facing wildlife, but also of the many different ways in which we can contribute to its conservation.
Jonas’s professional and personal journey has taken him into the field in Africa, where he worked on bat population studies, and to the Middle East, where he worked at a conservation and ex situ breeding centre dedicated to native wildlife. He also founded a non-profit organisation involved in scientific research and practical conservation projects in French Guiana.
His academic background includes a degree in Wildlife Management and a Master’s in Conservation Biology from the renowned Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE). These experiences have helped shape a broad approach to wildlife conservation, encompassing not only individual animals and the management of wild populations, but also the essential role of local communities and the people working to protect wildlife on the ground.
Over the years, extensive travel and field experience have sharpened Jonas’s observation skills, while continually expanding his understanding of wildlife and the ecosystems it inhabits. For Jonas, wildlife watching is about much more than finding and identifying a target species. It is about understanding how animals live, the habitats and ecological relationships they depend upon, the conservation challenges they face, and the people and organisations working to secure their future.
Seeing extraordinary animals in the wild remains an endless source of excitement for Jonas. He enjoys just as much sharing that excitement with others: taking the time to observe behaviour, understand what is being seen, meet local people and conservationists, and gradually build a deeper appreciation of a place and its wildlife.
That combination of exploration, observation, conservation and shared discovery is at the heart of the wildlife journeys Jonas leads.
