South Africa Mammals and Birds
The recent WildWings trip to South Africa was a great success with over 60 species of mammals being seen. Amongst the many highlights were close views of Southern Right Whales, an Aardvark foraging right in front of the group for fifteen minutes, eleven Aardwolves, a pack of hunting Wild Dogs plus dolphins, hedgehogs, hyena cubs and prolonged encounters with herds of Elephants.
Among the 270 or so bird species which were seen, a displaying Denham’s Bustard was a real spectacle but Cape Rockjumper, Black Harrier, Martial Eagle, African Finfoot, Secretarybird and six species of owl were all considered highlights by the participants.
