Amazing Borneo – save £1,400 per person

The island of Borneo truly is one of the world’s most incredible places to visit with dozens of endemic birds and mammals.  The northern part of this huge island is part of Malaysia and has some spectacular locations to explore such as the world famous Mount Kinabalu.  This massive granite peak towers to over 4,000m and the forested slopes are home to several range-restricted montane species including Whitehead’s Trogon, Whitehead’s Spiderhunter and Whitehead’s Broadbill, all of which are named after the nineteenth century British naturalist John Whitehead.

WildWings’ Chris Collins was recently invited to attend the Borneo Bird Festival and this was an opportunity to visit many of the sites which are included on the tour of sister brand Limosa Holidays including the Kinabatangan River, the 600+ metre long canopy walkway at the Rainforest Discovery Centre near Sepilok and the aforementioned Mount Kinabalu.

As well as the “Whitehead’s trio” on Mount Kinabalu, the group also saw Sabah Partridge, Blyth’s Frogmouth, Storm’s Stork, Buffy Fish Owl, Red-naped and Diard’s Trogons,  seven species of hornbills, Malaysian Blue-banded and Rufous-backed Dwarf Kingfishers, Red-bearded Bee-eater, Blue-headed and Black-crowned Pittas, Bornean Whistler, Blyth’s Paradise Flycatcher, Bornean Treepie, Bornean Stubtail plus plenty of other specialities.  The mammals were equally impressive with Bornean Pygmy Elephant, Bornean Orangutan, Proboscis Monkey, Western Tarsier, Malayan Porcupine, Red Giant Flying Squirrel, Sundaic Leopard Cat, Yellow-throated Marten and Smooth-coated Otter and all of these were seen in less than half the time of Limosa’s tour !!

Inspired by the success of this reconnaissance visit, we are delighted to be able to have a “winter sale” on the forthcoming Limosa tour to Borneo which departs the UK on 8 July and is led by Limosa’s expert guide Lee Kok Chung.  For bookings made between now and 31 March 2025, we have been able to reduce the price (land only) by £1,400 to £4,595.  Please check out the Limosa website for more details.
