Limosa's Thailand trip report available

WildWings' sister brand Limosa had a highly successful tour to Thailand in January where the waders included the critically endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper and 800+ Asian Dowitchers and over 200 Nordmann's Greenshanks.

WildWings' sister brand Limosa had a highly successful tour to Thailand in January which was led by Derek Barber and local expert guide Wich’yanan Limparungpatthanakij ("Jay"). An impressive list of specialities were seen, with the waders being a notable highlight with the critically endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper being seen very well along with an incredible 800+ Asian Dowitchers and over 200 Nordmann's Greenshanks. One experienced participant describing the holiday as "up there with my best ever birding trips" !!

The trip report is now available and can be downloaded by clicking here and the systematic list is here.

To quote Derek's update at the end of the trip:

"Starting in the South for our ‘wader quest’, we moved on to Kaeng Krachan and Khoa Yai and then to the North to connect with an array of mountain specialities. Highlights were many with Green-legged Partridge and Slaty-legged Rail in front of the hide at Kaeng Krachan along with a selection of laughingthrushes and other forest species, but White-fronted Scops Owl at a day roost took some beating.

A Sun Bear hanging around the lower camp ground was a big surprise and a particular favourite for the group. Banded Kingfisher, Long-tailed Broadbill and many other forest gems were seen at Khao Yai and we connected with the endemic Rufous Limestone Babbler on route to the national park. In the North, we had encounters with Spot-breasted Parrotbill, Mrs Hume’s Pheasant, Rufous-throated Partridge, Green Peacock, Giant Nuthatch, Jerdon’s Bush Chat and Scarlet-faced Liocichla to name just a few."

The tour will be running again in 2025 and to view further information please click here.

For those looking for a shorter trip to Thailand which concentrates on waders and the national parks of Kaeng Krachan, WildWings has a trip in March 2025 and for details please click here.
